Experience in London, United Kingdom by Si
What is it like to live in London? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I would definitely recommend living in London as a student, its a huge city its massively diverse. there is something for everyone.
What is the student lifestyle like in London?
You can choose your own 'student lifestyle' in London. London has so many different styles and areas, you can live life how you like. The energy is good for students here. you get out what you put in.
How much does it cost to live in London?
London is a buzzing capital in all respects with loads of opportunities, but it is expensive...
if you live in greater London or south east things tend to be cheaper but generally the cost of living is high.
rent for a student sharing a 3 bedroom house in London can be around £450-500 a month at the cheaper end of the scale.
transport is pretty expensive too and has recently gone up, when commuting in central London be prepared to spend up to £8-£10 daily depending on how many tube/bus/train journeys you have to make.
Eating and drinking out varies in price, if you go out in central London, Shoreditch, west London it will be expensive so keep an eye out for student nights and deals through your student union. Cook food at home for the day, avoid coffee shops (a coffee a day gets really expensive!)research on time out

for deals on attractions, bars and clubs.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in London? Is there any advice you can give?
no. look through your student union or get in contact with estate agents working in that area. There are not many student flats in central London because its to expensive but many universities have student accommodation there and there is more housing further out- obviously there is always a hostel or a bnb.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
London has every kind of takeaway food you can think of and you can order it pretty much at any time of day (or night). It has some really cool restaurants if you can afford it. Head for markets though like Borough market (nr London bridge) for really good quality street food.
What places would you recommend visiting in London?
Brick lane-for vintage shopping
Ronny Scotts (Soho)- really cool old school jazz bar
Shoreditch- bars and cafe's
Battersea arts centre-amazing alternative theatre
Portobello road-for the famous market (and good pubs)
national portrait gallery, V&A museum- always have good exhibitions.
If its sunny, just head to a park and hang out.
