Experience in London, United Kingdom by lucia
What is it like to live in London? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Yes I would recommend London. It's really good to live here. Even though it's a Capital, a big city, I don't find it stressful. The public transport is good so if you don't have a car don't worry, you can go everywhere in London by bus and underground. I love London`s green parks, theaters, shows and the alive music in public spaces such as in London eye, Westfield Shopping Centre and so on.
What is the student lifestyle like in London?
Most of them share the same accommodation. Of course they prefer a single bedroom, but they save money when they are willing to share a tween or triple room. Usually they are very united and are willing to help each other
How much does it cost to live in London?
It's not cheap, but not very expensive. The main costs are rent and transport. Food is cheap if you cook for yourself. Clothing also is very cheap. Depends on the budget, but i think 1.200,00 Pounds is enough to cover all expenses and a bit of entertainment.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in London? Is there any advice you can give?
Yes it is. Make a good plan before moving. It's better when you have three or more friends in the same situation so you can rent a flat or house together near the University so you save money with transport.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
There are plenty of choice in London if you like and can afford to eat out: Indian, Lebanese, Portuguese food, etc. I really like Arabic, Portuguese, Mexican, Spanish and Brazilian food. My favorite dishes are Moquequa(Brazilian recipe with fish and coconut milk), Paella, and Italian pasta.
What places would you recommend visiting in London?
London Eye, Big Ben area, British museum, Camden Market, Freud's museum.
Is it good to eat out in London? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Arabic restaurants in Edgware Road, Brazilian and Portuguese in Harrow Road. Nice restaurants also in Queensway and Shepperds Bush Station area.
Is the nightlife good in London? Where is good to go?
There are nice pubs with alive music and dance spaces, nightclubs and theaters with the best musical shows.
What advice would you give future students heading to London?
Plan everything in advance, make sure you know how much it will cost to live here so you can concentrate on your studies. Stick up to your friends and keep in contact with your families.
