What is it like to live in London? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It's a wonderful city that is always buzzing and exciting, but it's also extremely expensive and can be a little overwhelming. The weather isn't great but the people are, and it's a city full of opportunity.

What is the student lifestyle like in London?

A lot of partying, but mainly there are many societies to explore your interests, with a lot of opportunities for your future careers and beautiful, grand universities.

How much does it cost to live in London?

Too much! I live on about 900£, but I share my room. If you don't want to live too far from the centre; and you don't share your rooms, rooms are between 600-800£. Then there's the extremely expensive transport, count between 120 and 200£ if you don't live too far from the centre for a month. And adding to that, food and entertainment. And schools are expensive; you pay for the societies and some events.

All together, without a student accommodation, 900-1200£/month.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in London? Is there any advice you can give?

It's not difficult if you don't have too high an expectation. The buildings are old and expensive, the best thing is to look for roommates. It's the cheapest way and it allows you to live fairly centrally so you don't have to spend too much on transports.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The British food, in itself, is kind of terrible. Now don't get me wrong, some of it is amazing: brunches, afternoon teas, Sunday roast and cupcakes.. it's gorgeous. But more importantly it's a very cosmopolite city so you have so much choice and so many different types of food from all over the world which is amazing.

What places would you recommend visiting in London?

Everywhere! Soho is beautiful, and all the public museums are free so definitely do those. I love Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, and the banks of the river with Tower Hill is lovely.

Is it good to eat out in London? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yeah it's great! I live around Notting Hill, so my favorite is Portobello Road. The market there is awesome (and the Camden Market is amazing too) and there are tons of little restaurant.

Is the nightlife good in London? Where is good to go?

I don't really do that, so I can't say, but I've heard it's great! My favorite pub/bar is Evans and Peel, in Earl's Court.

What advice would you give future students heading to London?

Do your research about your health coverage, and book a youth hostel for a few nights to get an accommodation (never pay for anything before actually seeing the flat, London is full of awful scams). Get your subway card in advance if you can, and get a rail card, so you can travel everywhere!
