What is it like to live in London? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

London is a busy and expensive city but you can never be bored here. There is always something to do or see and if you search around you can find activities for free too! There is plenty of sightseeing to be done and the museums are free entry. It is pretty cold and wet most of the time though so bring an umbrella and a warm coat.

What is the student lifestyle like in London?

There are always plenty of clubs open around London (although they are expensive) but there are some good student discounts around. Look out for student events posted around the university, the societies usually plan good socials too.

How much does it cost to live in London?

It is very costly to live in London. Rent is the biggest expenditure so look around for the best prices, maybe it would be cheaper to live outside the city centre and commute in. Although transport fees are very expensive too so it is worth researching.

Students can apply for a student Oyster Card which provides discounts weekly and monthly travel cards. If you are under 25 years old it may also be worth purchasing the 16-25 Railcard. This also provides a discount when you get the tube ticket offices to pair the rail card with your oyster card.

Food is also quite expensive. However if you look online you can usually find vouchers which provide discounts for restaurants.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in London? Is there any advice you can give?

Many of the universities will provide halls around London but there is a very limited amount of rooms the universities can provide in London.

Look online for student accommodation too but make sure you view the place before committing to living there.

What places would you recommend visiting in London?

A walk along the River Thames is nice starting from around the London Eye. There are usually street performers around this area too.

Covent Garden has lovely markets, restaurants and street performers.

Oxford Street is great for shopping. Westfields (Stratford or Shepherds Bush) are also excellent for shopping.

South Kensington is home to a lot of the museums in central London.

The West End is full of theatres which have some great shows on.

The DLR train line is mostly above ground and so provides a cheaper way to view some of the sights in East London.

Is it good to eat out in London? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

China town, Covent Gardens, Soho and if you want to experience an authentic taste of India then visit Southall.

Is the nightlife good in London? Where is good to go?

London is full of clubs and there are places to go for every music taste.

Central London is very expensive to go for a night out. Look out for student deals and events organised by societies or the student unions.
