What is it like to live in London? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

London is a fantastic city with lots of attitude and a definite buzz! No two places are the same and it is a great city to explore. You'll be spoilt for choice for things to do as there is always something going on in London, whether it be exhibitions, concerts, theatre shows or markets.

What is the student lifestyle like in London?

London is a great place for students as there is so much to do, so I doubt you'll ever be bored. I would definitely recommend getting an International Student Card or something similar as it does make a difference when it comes to saving money. Also if you do have a student card you get money off in most restaurants, shops and on things like cinema tickets and entry to museums.

How much does it cost to live in London?

London isn't the cheapest city to live in but if you're savvy with your money and look out for deals (which there are a lot of) you can save quite a bit. If you are planning on staying in London for a long time I would definitely pick up an oyster card as it saves you so much money on transport. I would also recommend sharing accommodation with one or several other people as this means your rent will be much cheaper!

Is it difficult to find accommodation in London? Is there any advice you can give?

Finding accommodation in London is the same as finding accommodation in any big city, you just have to know where to look. The Erasmus website is a fantastic way to find accommodation as people are advertising all the time. Another handy website is www.spareroom.co.uk, where you can find people who are looking for a flatmate. By sharing a flat you can also save money on bills!

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You can find almost every kind of food in London as it is so culturally diverse! One of my favourite restaurants is called East Street. They serve pan-asian food that is fresh and simply delicious. It is on Rathbone Place, which is just off Oxford Street making it easy to find and a great place to grab a bite to eat after a long day's shopping.

What places would you recommend visiting in London?

I would definitely recommend checking out the markets in London such as the famous Camden Market which has everything from vintage clothing to weird and wonderful antiques. I would also recommend checking out Portobello Market which has a variety of incredible fresh foods and produce. Shopping in London is a must and some of my favourite places are Covent Garden, Carnaby Street and Bond Street. The museums in London are definitely worth a visit!

Is it good to eat out in London? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

London is fantastic for eating out, and it doesn't have to be expensive! If you're in to Mexican food you should definitely give Wahaca a visit! As mentioned before East Street should not be missed as the food is fantastic! If you do go be sure to get the East Street platter to share. If you're looking for a more "traditional" meal I would visit a pub such as The Dog and Duck in Soho for some top British grub.

Is the nightlife good in London? Where is good to go?

The nightlife in London is great! Its a buzzing city and there is something to do every night of the week. If you fancy a casual drink or a cocktail then head over to Two Floors on Carnaby Street or Be At One in Soho. Both bars have a lively vibe and their cocktails are delicious and not too expensive! If you're up for a bit of a dance then there are plenty of clubs in London! If you're in to your DJ's and love a bit of house, dubstep or electro Fabric is the place to go. A very cool club which showcases underground DJ talent, internationally-renowned electronic music legends, and accomplished live acts. If you're wanting more of a glamourous night out then Embargo 59 on the Kings Road or Mahiki on Dover Street should not be missed.

What advice would you give future students heading to London?

My best advice for students heading to London is to get stuck in! Grab a map, buy your tube ticket and get exploring. There is so much to see and enjoy in London and I can guarantee you will love it! If you get lost don't be afraid to ask for directions or help, people are friendly and will be more than willing to help you! Lastly don't forget to smile, you'll be surprised at how far a smile can get you!
