Experience in London, United Kingdom by Amanda
What is it like to live in London? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
London is the heart of the UK, it's vibrant with lots of places you go and see... there's never a dull moment. I recommend this city to those that are easily bored and need a motive every other day! I personally love London and use it as my go to when I'm bored with my usual routine.
What is the student lifestyle like in London?
As London is filled with many many universities, student life is a ball! Many friends have met a wide range of people and continue to expand their circle. The activities are limitless. However London is rather expensive with accommodation and transport being a bit of a struggle, I personally believe this to be the negative part about living in London.
How much does it cost to live in London?
Depending on the availability of supermarkets and general markets will determine how far and therefore how much you will need for the basic necessities. London is rather expensive compared to cities up north and has been criticised for this. However, if you were to take up part-time job things would be a lot easier in terms of finances.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in London? Is there any advice you can give?
It is not really that difficult to find accommodation in London. The main concern is the cost. Simply searching for accommodation on Google is a sufficient enough tool to find roughly what you are looking for.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Since London is full of culture you can find anything from Chinese to African dishes. The options are immense! I love all kinds of food so I can`t discriminate but I`ll have to say my favourite is a cheeky donner kebab with chips, costing around £3. 99!
What places would you recommend visiting in London?
I recommend visiting Oxford Circus, Leicester Square and Camden Town!
Is it good to eat out in London? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
London is an incredible place to eat out. My current favourite spot is Vapiano. Personally I believe that they do the best Italian dishes!
Is the nightlife good in London? Where is good to go?
The nightlife is very good in London, however, I found transport home, in terms of taxis, to be on the expensive side. Bus journeys are too long and you become at risk of falling asleep on the bus! Leicester Square is very good for its nightlife.
What advice would you give future students heading to London?
Be financially prepared to have fun!
