Erasmus experience in London, United Kingdom by Lukasz
Why did you choose to go to London, United Kingdom?
Because it is one of the most interesting cities in Europe and in the world as well. I had visited London once before my Erasmus and I wanted to come back, so Erasmus was a great opportunity to do that.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I had a three months scholarship. I received 1500 euro for three months.
Would you recommend the city and the University of London to other students?
The City is great. I'm not in right position to recommend any Univeristy in London because I was in a law firm during my Erasmus project (so it was a "working option" of Erasmus, not that one with studying in a foreign university).
What is the food like?
In London, you can taste many, many dishes from different parts of the world. I believe that each culture has its own restaurant in London.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in London?
Yes, I didn't receive any help from my University or from the host law firm in finding accommodation.
How much does it cost to live in London?
It is quite expensive: 500 euro per month is not enough. Accommodation costs about 300-400 pound per month, tickets for buses or underground are also quite expensive (about 80-130 pound per month).
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to London from your city?
By plane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in London?
Clubs in Covent Garden or Soho area.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in London?
Try to eat in as many different places you can: this is one of the best things you can do in London.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
National Gallery, Tate Modern, Tate Britain. RAF Museum is also interesting and the Imperial War Museum as well.
