Why did you choose to go to London, UK?

I think London is the best city to grow culturally. It's very cosmopolitan with lots of museums, theatres, cinemas, galleries and other places of interest.

On the other hand, it was the only place in Europe that offered me one year of practical classes in Film Direction within an official degree. There are many other alternatives, but only London was willing to welcome international students for such expensive degrees.

How long was your stay? How much money do you receive for support?

I received an ERASMUS + scholarship. The scholarship lasts seven months, and they give me around €350 per month, but at the moment I only get 70% of it and will receive the rest when I return to Spain.

What's the student lifestyle like in London?

It's the best I've found in a city. It is true that, in some cases, you may have the misfortune of meeting very snobby or superficial student groups, but in general people are very polite and helpful. Universities are well equipped, and students have lots of privileges. I recommend studying here if you can afford it.

Would you recommend the city and the University of London to other students?

Of course, mate.

What's the country's food like?

The typical food of the United Kingdom is alright. In general, it's not particularly exciting but it's not bad at all. The dishes are usually simple: roast chicken, fish cakes, lots of types of dishes with potatoes, and an excessively sweet pastry selection: there is glaze and butter in almost everything.

The advantage of living in London is that you can find food from anywhere in the world, which is great.

Was it difficult to find accommodation in London?

It took me a month. The sooner you get used to the price of a room in London, the faster you will find somewhere. I shared a room in student residence and prices for these will not go below £630 per month. A flat can be cheaper, but it doesn't have as many advantages. When it comes to applying for accommodation, it's very simple, a point in favour of the English.

How much does it cost to live in London?

It depends. I live in a shared room, in student halls in Zone 1. The residence only includes breakfast, the cleaning of rooms and some parties, dinners and barbecues that are organised here and are covered in the price. I pay £640 per month, which is more than €700. Very expensive.

How's the language? Did you go on a course at the University?

The language is very good. I didn't need a course, but the university itself usually offers them for free.

What is the cheapest way to get to London from your hometown?

Flying.

Which places do you recommend for nightlife in London?

Shoreditch, Soho and Camden. Predictable.

What about eating out in London? What are your favourite places?

Misato, which is very close to Piccadilly (cash only) and, if you fancy Spanish food, Barrafina (but you can't make reservations). Boxpark is also great if you are in East London. Borough Market is always a good option, and if you fancy a lot of variety and don't mind eating on the street, Brick Lane and Camden are very good and very cheap areas.

What about things to do and see in London?

The West End, the museums, cinemas on every corner... I don't have any problems with finding things to do.

Do you have any advice for future students in London?

Depend on public transport as little as possible, it is excessively expensive.

Look for a supermarket with competitive prices in your area. Tesco and Sainsbury's are good options for a very small purchase or when you need something quick. Lidl and Morrisons are all-round better options.

Since I arrived I have used an umbrella once. It is a myth that it rains every day here, but it is recommended to have a raincoat handy just in case.

Avoid using the EasyBus service to get to or from an airport, it is very often delayed (sometimes, more than an hour).

Go to at least one musical. It is totally worth it.
