Greek red-figure vases from the Classical Period are to be found among the early works exhibited. They show mythological scenes and use floral decorative motives.

Roman mosaics follow depicting flowers and dancers. Imagine all these little stones put together by manual labour!

A Roman sarcophagus with a sphinx on each side follows, with various Greek helmets in the background.

Here you see a Classical Greek panoply, the armour for a hoplite (armed citizen). The helmet (Corinthian style) has a famous form, and all in all, the armour was very effective fighting side by side against the lightly-armoured Persians.

These marble busts show Roman emperors from the Hellenistic era (before that, they did not have beards, but due to Greek influence, the style changed).

The Elgin Marbles are a very famous exhibit, but their presence is contested by Greeks ... the dispute is going on while we tourists can learn about the history of Europe!
