Experience in Lodz, Poland by Jan
What is it like to live in Lodz? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Lodz is a city that lives around its main street - Piotrkowska. All the pubs, clubs, venues etc are there, so its easy for the night-lifers. There's also a lot of museums and architecturals gems, but public communication sucks and it may be hard to travel inside the city. Bring a bike.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lodz?
We've got the Uni - cool people, the Medical Uni - no-one knows them, and a technical uni - lame ass people. There's also a Film School - cool people, and some private unis. Most of the students tend to go at Piotrkowska street at night, but we also have got a lot of recreational areas near the faculties and libraries.
How much does it cost to live in Lodz?
Not much - you can rent a room for as much as 500zł and then if u have 1000zł per month (that is about 250E), u can live a fair life.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Lodz? Is there any advice you can give?
Do not rent a room without seeing the neighbourhood cause u may get mugged quite oftenly if u choose a bad location.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Food is typical, no fireworks but there is a lot of conceptual restaurants, everybody should find something for himself. And a lot of vegetarian/vegan cuisine.
