Why did you choose to go to Lodz, Poland?
Because Poland is a very cheap country and very far from my home country. It sounded and looked like an interesting challenge that I do not regret taking. It has been an adventure!
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
That depends. Erasmus Mundus students receive a huge scholarship per month (1000 euro). But in my case, Erasmus+, no more than 200 euro a month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lodz?
Very easy. You get help from Erasmus Social Network, from teachers, from International Students Office. You can party all the time. It's very nice and very relaxed.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Lodz to other students?
Yes, I would.
What is the food like?
Polish food is not amazing. Pierogi is a very typical polish dish but I'm not a big fan. However, I advice everyone to taste it.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Lodz?
No, it didn't.
How much does it cost to live in Lodz?
It is hard to say a precise number. It always depends on the lifestyle of the person. But it is a very cheap city.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes, language courses are available, but Polish is really hard to learn and speak.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Lodz from your city?
By plane, definitely. The best option is to buy two different flights. For example, go from Portugal to London and from London to Lodz or Warsaw.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Lodz?
Lordi's Club, Szafa, Magic Pub, Bedroom, Biblioteka, Irish Pub.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Lodz?
Manekin, Pizzeria Biesiadowo, Presto Pizza, The Mexican.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Lodz in the future?
Bring a lot of warm clothing. It it freezing here!
