Erasmus Experience in Lodz, Poland by Adrien
Why did you choose to go to Lodz, Poland?
Mainly because of school and probably prices in the city, because its a lot cheaper than Warsaw or Krakow for example.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship was for 4 months and 15 days, and I receive 1610 €.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lodz?
Party, party, party.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Lodz to other students?
Lodz is a nice city but there are a lot of cities that are more beautiful than Lodz.
What is the food like?
It depends on what you like. Polish food is really good. And on Piotrkowska (main street) you can choose from many restaurants and find something you like.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Lodz?
Fortunately no. I get a dormitory and it costs 270pln/month (dorm VIII - hell on the earth, if you don't like partying every day and drinking tons of vodka, avoid this dorm).
How much does it cost to live in Lodz?
Monthly, around 400 € but it depends how much you party and what you eat.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Courses are available and teachers are really good, so no problem with choosing any courses.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Lodz from your city?
I guess bus or train, or a plane to Warsaw and then Modlin Bus to Lodz (I came by car, for me it was probably best option).
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Lodz?
There are a lot of clubs, but mostly Erasmus people go to Lordis because Erasmus people have free invitation and maybe a drink. But after time you will find out that it is every week the same story, so go out and discover another clubs (Czekolada, Futurysta... ).
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Lodz?
First, Manufaktura (amazing shopping center with fast foods) but also with good restaurants (Galicja, French potato.. ), and I can't forget about Manekin - best pancakes ever, you will see.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Jewish cemetery for sure (biggest in Europe) and than whatever you want. Opera, philharmonia, churches... a lot of things to do.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Lodz in the future?
Have fun and enjoy!
