What is it like to live in Liverpool? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I am a local to Liverpool and I couldn't think of studying anywhere else in Britain. Liverpool is lively, beautiful and the people are so welcoming.

What is the student lifestyle like in Liverpool?

Liverpool is the perfect student city. There's so many sights to see, places to eat, party and meet other people that you'll be spoiled for choice.

How much does it cost to live in Liverpool?

Liverpool is a relatively cheap place to live in. Although there are expensive bars and restaurants, there are also plenty of places to shop, eat and go out for a reasonable price.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Liverpool? Is there any advice you can give?

As a student, I found it fairly easy to find accommodation. The popular places to live in are:

1. In the centre of town, however this can be pricey!
2. Kensington, an area very close to the Universities, however, it is often considered to be a risky place to live with high rates of burglaries.
3. Smithdown Road, this is where I lived and is the most popular are for students due to the lively atmosphere and cheaper housing prices. I would recommend living here.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Liverpool is known for its local dish 'Scouse', a stew containing lamb, potatoes, carrots and onions. It's really tasty and definitely worth a try from one of the local cafes in town.

What places would you recommend visiting in Liverpool?

The two beautiful and very different cathedrals, the Albert docks, the Liverpool museum, the Cavern club, the Chinese archway.

Is it good to eat out in Liverpool? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Liverpool is celebrated for its vast amount of local restaurants. You can buy an 'Independent Liverpool' card which gives you a discount to many different restaurants and bars in the city. I would recommend 'Almost Famous' for amazing burgers, 'Leaf' on Bold Street for specialty teas and great food and also 'The Tavern Co. ' on Smithdown road for a perfect English breakfast.

Is the nightlife good in Liverpool? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is excellent. On a Saturday night concert square is a very busy area in the centre of town which is essentially a square full of bars and busy night clubs. There are also many pubs to enjoy a drink and the Albert Docks has many cocktail bars and fancier clubs.

What advice would you give future students heading to Liverpool?

Take in as much of the culture of Liverpool as you can. As a multicultural city, we welcome people from all around the globe and you should experience as much of our local atmosphere as possible.
