Erasmus Experience in Liverpool, United Kingdom by Marcella
Why did you choose to go to Liverpool, United Kingdom?
To improve my English.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
Ten months. I don't know, around 300/400 euros by month, from the scholarship I receive 280 by month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Liverpool?
It is very funny, you can have the chance to meet many people from different cultures, and you can also get to know the british culture. People are very friendly in clubs and pubs, as well.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Liverpool to other students?
Yes, I would.
What is the food like?
The food is not good, if you want to have an healthy diet you have to cook but vegetables and fruits are quite expensive. I suggest you to do your grocery shop at Lidl.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Liverpool?
There many accommodations so it is easy to find one but they are also very expensive, I pay 117 pounds by week. You have also to buy things for the kitchen like pots and plates etc. However, living in a home is far less expensive but you have to find it during summer or during Christmas time. Furthermore, usually landlords are stingy with the heater and often rooms are ugly and small but.... I wish you good luck.
How much does it cost to live in Liverpool?
I don't know exactly, look at the answer I gave above.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes and yes.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Liverpool from your city?
There are no many choices, you have to find a cheap flight and that is all.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Liverpool?
Clubs or The Cavern when they sing live music all the time.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Liverpool?
Yes, I recommend you the Persian restaurant located in London Road and also restaurants in Bold street.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Liverpool in the future?
Prepare yourself to the Scouse accent, that is really strong and horrible, and don't feel lost if you do not understand... think that even English people do not understand them.... but, on the other hand, they are generally very friendly.
