My Home Away From Home

Liverpool

Studying in Liverpool and living there for the past three years has quickly meant that the city has become my new home away from home.

Liverpool is a beautiful city that has so many things on offer for those who choose to visit.

Upon arriving there back in 2015, I was surprised to realise how tightly knit the city actually is. Everything that you need within the city centre itself is within walking distance, making the commute very quick and simple.

That being said, it always a very busy city, so on a weekend, it is actually a blessing when I have to work as it means that I am not putting myself under copious amounts of stress to try and navigate my way through Church street – the main shopping street of Liverpool – and Liverpool One shopping centre.

I had never been taught too much about Liverpool, other than that it has had a rocky past. It was only in 2008 when Liverpool One opened, that I began to get a feel for this emerging city, that has so much to offer.

Liverpool was voted European Capital of Culture back in 2008, which meant that there was a lot going on in the city during this time. There were many festivals and celebrations throughout the city as it give the world a glimpse into its rich heritage and traditions.

The great city has evolved from a tiny fishing village – going back centuries – to a thriving port that sits along the River Mersey.

Liverpool is now known to be home to some amazing landmarks. Including, the home of The Beatles, Liver Building, St George’s Hall, The Royal Albert Dock, Bluecoat Chamber and the Radio City Tower.

The balance of history and modernisation sits Liverpool well as a place of rich heritage with the capabilities to be new and innovative.

Liverpool has had to deal with many different disasters during its time such as the Hillsborough disaster, Heysel Stadium disaster and the miner’s strikes. But, Liverpool has come through these dark times and has now made a name for itself and I am proud to say that I live there.

As I have lived there for so long, I have been able to explore many areas of Liverpool that some tourists may not have even heard of. I will be starting a new series that will compile everything that I love about Liverpool and the amazing places and sights that it has to offer, along with some tips and tricks during your stay there.
