Erasmus Experience in Linz, Austria by Daniel
Why did you choose to go to Linz, Austria?
I choose linz because of the kunstuniversitat and the ars electronica festival, they have a really awesome program in my field of study (digital art/ interface cultures), it was a great experience and even i extended the erasmus program cause i have been selected to participate in this featival, so like a dream come true!
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The scholarship i recieved was 1200 euros and it payed my room only, but it was a great help to be able to afford the living in Austria.
What is the student lifestyle like in Linz?
Well its a student city but there are not many bars and the different kind of universities sometimes doesn't means that you will find the best party every weekend but there are a lot of activities for all kind of tastes.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Linz to other students?
Yes its a very clean, safe and nice town and the university is really good.
What is the food like?
Well depending in what you eat... Good food is not that cheap...
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Linz?
Im in a student residence in the center of the city, just book with anticipation!
How much does it cost to live in Linz?
Around a 100€ per week plus the rent of the room
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes you will get a free german course but seriously not many Austrians speak english.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Linz from your city?
Well... Maybe by plane, trains are very expensive and bus could be also a good option!
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Linz?
Walk around the center and you will find your place, around the danube river is great!
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Linz?
My erasmus budget doesnt allow me to go to restaurants... But there are different kind that are decent, italian, Japanese, kebabs!
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Ok quarter and arounds.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Linz in the future?
Try to buy a bike or bring yours its a great place to go around cycling!
