What is it like to live in Limassol? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Limassol is a beautiful city near the sea and the second biggest city of Cyprus. It's the city of wine, carnival and fun! If you like the sun, the beach and food, I trully recommend it! I've lived there my whole life and I love it so much.

What is the student lifestyle like in Limassol?

Limassol is a city where you can study, make friends and have fun at the same time. It's very easy to study there, there's no pressure or stress.

How much does it cost to live in Limassol?

In my opinion, for rent you will need around 170 to 350 euros max. It depends on the area and the size of the flat. Monthly you may need 600-850 euros, including rent, electricity, water, groceries, food and fun. The prices are fine as long as you know where to go.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Limassol? Is there any advice you can give?

It depends on what you are looking for. But there are a lot of websites for student studios and flat sharing. You will find something for sure.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food in Cyprus is really delicious. You will find that Cypriot cuisine takes its ingredients and flavors from signature Greek and Turkish fare. In Cyprus, instead of the greek feta cheese, there is the halloumi cheese. We eat them both, but on different occasions.

Some of the dishes I love are:

  • Kebab/souvlaki (mostly chunks of meat such as lamb, pork, chicken, or fish, that’s cooked on a skewer and seasoned with olive oil, oregano, and lemon - usually served with tzatziki and pita bread).
  • Source

  • Pasticcio (macaroni pie with minced meat)
  • Source

  • Koupepia (staffed vine leaves)
  • Source

  • Sheftalia (cypriot sausages with minced meat, usually lamb or pork)
  • Keftedes (fried meatballs with minced pork or beef and grated potatos)
  • Kleftiko (a traditional lamb dish that’s baked in a kiln and cooked for a minimum of 24 hours in the clay oven)

What places would you recommend visiting in Limassol?

  • The Curium (ancient ruins) with a stunnig view,
  • The Kolossi castle,
  • Amathus ruins,
  • The Monastery of St. George Alamanov,
  • St. Nicholas of the Cats,
  • The Medieval Castle of Limassol.

You can escape from the city if you go to the Oleastro Olive Park and Museum, as well as in some small and beautiful villages like Omodos, Koilani, Platres, Agros and many others. There are hidden small waterfalls, huge trees and fresh air to relax and enjoy nature.

If you come in Limassol during the summer season, you must visit theFasouri Watermania Water Park and of course go to the beach. Lady's Mile, Governor's Beach, Afroditi and Dasoudi are a few of the many beaches of Limassol.

Limassol Marina is a nice place for an afternoon or night walk by the sea, with restaurants and coffee shops.

For those who need a shopping therapy or just some fun, you can visit My Mall Limassol. There are many famous shops, restaurants, an ice-skate rink, a bowling center and game center.

Is it good to eat out in Limassol? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are many restaurants in the center of Limassol. In the Saripolou Square, Limassol Marina, at Enaerios Street and of course in the Medival Castle Square. Here are a few of them that I prefer: Karatello, Draught, La Mer, Ocean Basket. And for those who love burgers and steaks there is always T. G. I. Friday's.

Is the nightlife good in Limassol? Where is good to go?

Limassol is full of life during the day, and during the night as well. Some of the best clubs are Guaba Beach Bar with house music and tons of people, Dolce Club, 7 Seas and Soho Room.

For the cocktail lovers there are some places you definitely have to go! (in)Theory is a bar with the most amazing cocktails I've ever tried, and of course the Elixir Cocktail Bar with good music and also unique cocktails.

There is also an area for students and younger people though, Saripolou Square. This area has a lot of bars with music, drinks, food and people full of energy. It's a good place for entertainment, dance and socialize. Sometimes weekdays are quieter, and you can go there and relax with a glass of wine or a cocktail. Some of the bars are: Blue Apple, Industry, Canella, (in)Theory and Down Under.

What advice would you give future students heading to Limassol?

Don't think, just book the tickets already and dig up your swimsuit and sunscreen. The weather is sunny 300 days a year. Don't worry about the language. Many people speak English and they are really friendly and hospitable. Student life, and cypriot life in general, is really different. There is something special about Limassol. There are many hidden sides of it, that they will make you fall in love with the city little by little...
