What is it like to live in Lima? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I would definitely recommend to live in Lima. The city has great nightlife, nice people, the ocean, delicious food. What else can you ask for?

How much does it cost to live in Lima?

You can rent a room in a shared flat or house for approximately $200-250 in Miraflores. If you want to rent out a 1 bedroom apartment you can expect to pay anywhere between $600-1200 per month.

A daily meal at the local restaurants costs $4-5. Taxis are cheap, a 30-min ride would cost you around $4-5.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Lima? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not difficult, I would suggest to look on couchsurfing, there are many people who are renting out rooms or flats for extended stays.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Peruvian cuisine is one of the best of the world. My favourite dishes are ceviche (raw fish), lomo saltado and aji de gallina.

Is the nightlife good in Lima? Where is good to go?

Gotica is the most upmarket disco that is located in Larcomar. Everybody foreigner and upper/upper-middle class Peruvian party there.

My personal favourite is Sargento Pimienta, a rock pub. You often find gigs of local bands here.

Other popular places: Help (open only Thursday night), Aura.

What advice would you give future students heading to Lima?

Travel around the country as much as you can. Don't stay in Lima, discover the jungle, the highlands, the desert and the beaches! Peru has a lot to offer.
