Experience in Leipzig, Germany by Inga
What is it like to live in Leipzig? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Leipzig is a great place! Especially for students. It takes a while to feel at home, but afterwards it'll be hard to leave.
What is the student lifestyle like in Leipzig?
Leipzig has a lot of students and you'll always find a way to have a good time. Sometimes it feels like a village in a big-city- costume because you'll meet so many people again and again without planing.
How much does it cost to live in Leipzig?
Leipzig is full of beautiful apartments in old houses and the rent is very cheap if you compare it to other German cities. A room in a WG in one of the parts of the cities where a lot of students live costs about 200-220€ per month. Of course you can always get it cheaper if you know your way.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Leipzig? Is there any advice you can give?
There's no better way to find an accommodation than here! It's easy - there's still a lot of free space.
What places would you recommend visiting in Leipzig?
Just walk around - climb over some fences and soon you'll find yourself on the top of an old rotten building.
Baumwollspinnerei is a big area with galleries - you shouldn't miss it!
Is it good to eat out in Leipzig? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
I recommend going to the following restaurants:
- "Meet Freunde" at Karl-Liebknecht-Straße
- "Reisladen" at Karl-Heine-Straße
- "Chinabrenner" at Gießerstraße (but as a student you can only afford their lunch-special)
Is the nightlife good in Leipzig? Where is good to go?
It depends on what you're into. If you like electronic music you can go out every day of the week! Check out this place.
And be aware: don't go to parties at clubs in the city center - they are bad and just for tourists.
In the spring and the summer there are always big open-air-parties in the parks all day and night long.
What advice would you give future students heading to Leipzig?
No advice. Congratulations - You are going to a wonderful, young city!
