Why did you choose to go to Leiden, Netherlands?

There was a program between my university and Leiden. All of my friends who have visited Leiden recommended me to go there.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

This is for one semester, spring or fall. You can get about 3000 euros in total.

What is the student lifestyle like in Leiden?

You have to study hard. There is no difference between regular students and exchange students. If you sign up for the student societies, there would be many parties.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Leiden to other students?

If you want to rest and study at the same time, this is nice place.

What is the food like?

Food sucks... I always cook by my own. Don't expect nice Dutch food. Cooking costs less than eating in restaurants.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Leiden?

I don't recommend you to use student housing office in the university. If you use many homepages that are in the university homepage, you can find a better and cheaper place. Though it will cost you some time, for me it took 2 months.

How much does it cost to live in Leiden?

I use about 600 euros in a month including housing. My housing costs 300 euros per month. So except housing, you will use about 300 euros.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

There are some language courses in Leiden university, but I have no idea how to register them. However, every Dutch is so fluent in English. You can survive if you speak English only.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Leiden from your city?

Bus, but train is more recommended.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Leiden?

Pubs and student parties.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Leiden?

At home, don't go out. It's too expensive for students.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

There are many museums, but I've never been there.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Leiden in the future?

Leiden is good, but you will need some time to adapt here. At first, you can feel that it is boring, but you will find out it is so peaceful soon.
