What is it like to live in Leicester? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Leicester is a small/medium sized city and with it's size comes lots of benefits. As it is not a large city the prices are generally cheap but being a city means that there are also other places that are a bit more up-market if that's more what you're in to.

The club scene is ok for a city of this size, but the bar scene is pretty good.

Leicester is a diverse city and is very much up and coming due to the city's ambitious regeneration plan.

What is the student lifestyle like in Leicester?

Very good! Leicester is the only city where the two universities don't have such a fierce rivalry (until it comes to varsity). This means that you get to mix with students from the other university a lot on nights out, which I think is a good thing.

There are a number of parks and many student bars, clubs and cafes to attend.

How much does it cost to live in Leicester?

Accommodation in Leicester is generally quite expensive averaging £ 105 per week. Nights out are relatively cheap with club entry sometimes being free up to a maximum of £ 7.

The best place to buy fresh produce is Leicester market which is insanely cheap.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Leicester? Is there any advice you can give?

Not really, if there's one thing Leicester has it is a wealth of student accommodation. The student accommodation is nice and well priced but if you're looking for a house you may have a hard time finding one that suits all your needs and budget.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is excellent. There is a wealth of restaurants from chains to family restaurants.

Leicester is particularly good if you like curry.

What places would you recommend visiting in Leicester?

Abbey Park, Highcross, River Soar, Newark Houses Museum, De Montfort University heritage centre, Victoria Park...

Is it good to eat out in Leicester? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Wagamamas is probably my favourite but there is also a really nice italian restaurant on Albion street.

Is the nightlife good in Leicester? Where is good to go?

For a cheap student night: Mosh, Club Republic, De Montfort Student's Union, Leicester Student's Union... and the main strip of bars.

For a more up-market night: Ghost, XY, The Terrace Bar.

What advice would you give future students heading to Leicester?

There is more to Leicester than what first meets the eye. Go out and explore it to find the best places for yourself.
