What is it like to live in Leeuwarden? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is a nice city, but if you come from a big city you will think it is very small. Although it is growing and becoming more of a student city, there are still some disadvantages for partying. If you want to go to big clubs, we only have 1 or 2. But, there are many bars and small pubs you can hang out in and meet with friends. Also if you like to dance there are some nice dance-floors. Shopping opportunities are moderate. There are shops but the city centre is quite small compared to other cities. But the "rivers" in the city centre are nice, and give it an authentic look and feel.

What is the student lifestyle like in Leeuwarden?

Student lifestyle is good. Enough opportunities to party and cheap beer. Most clubs and bars offer student nights with cheap drinks. Also, there are many different kind of clubs/bars/pubs so there is something for everyone. Also, since the city is small you can reach everything by bike. As you may know, the Dutchies have a big biking culture. Almost no one walks or takes a car/bus because riding your bike all year round is just faster and cheaper.

To get a student room in Leeuwarden you will pay between €250 and €300. For food, going out, clothes. €200 or €300 is enough a month, depending on how much you go out and what kind of drinks you drink. Mixes are pretty expensive (€6 euro or more) and beer is usually €1, 50.

No, try to do this via Facebook groups. There are also websites who can help you find a room. Over all it is pretty easy to find a room.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is good, there are many different kinds of restaurants in the city. Also Stenden University offers food from various origins in their canteen. Me as a Dutchy, i like our snack bars.

What places would you recommend visiting in Leeuwarden?

When you are in Leeuwarden it is impossible not to visit the pub street. This small street smells like alcohol and the pubs almost never close. Also, visit the food market on friday's and saturdays. Go to Irish Pub Paddy O"Ryan and if you want to hang out in a coffee shop and try something new, go to Repelsteeltje.

Is the nightlife good in Leeuwarden? Where is good to go?

Yes, check out Scooters for live bands and karaoke on thursday nights. Go to Hemmingway. but not before 1. Also know that the true night life does not start before 12-1 at night. So if you want to drink something before go to the pub street or any other pub where you can sit and drink, dancing comes later.
