What is it like to live in Lausanne? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Lausanne is a very young, yet authentic city in Switzerland. It is quite an international city that has kept its traditions and old buildings, which makes it nice to discover by foot. The city is by the Lake Léman, located in the most beautiful area of Western Switzerland. The location of Lausanne is perfect for many things: you have a city center with shops, restaurants, clubs and bars but you can also access the lake by foot, go to the beach and enjoy the beautiful landscapes from the lakeside. Additionally, Lausanne is close to other large cities in Switzerland that are easily accessible by public transports, which are well developed. Montreux, Vevey or Geneva are quickly reached by train from Lausanne Station. I would definitely recommend living in Lausanne, as location offers a mix of places to go to and student life is also great.

What is the student lifestyle like in Lausanne?

In Lausanne, we party a lot and since there are not that many clubs, it is easy to meet new people. Also, from Lausanne, Lausanne University, EPFL or other schools are easily accessible by public transports.

How much does it cost to live in Lausanne?

It is rather expensive to live in Lausanne, compared to european cities. Going to the super market or restaurant will be more expensive than in other places, but most of the students have extra jobs, which pay accordingly.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Lausanne? Is there any advice you can give?

Accommodation is difficult to find indeed, especially if you are looking for a city center flat. Most students would live along the metro line, as everything is quickly accessible with metro. Many also live close to their university, which is less expensive and probably easier to arrange.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food found in supermarkets is often of high quality, and one can also find bio easily. If you are vegan, Lausanne is probably a little more difficult, as our lifestyle has not yet adapted to that trend.

Is it good to eat out in Lausanne? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

We have many good restaurants! Many new ones, offering trendy places and good food, young owners understanding the need of a very student city. My favorite spots are Nandanam (a great indian restaurant - the best in the city), Black Bird (trendy brunch and lunch place) and Mario (great pizzeria where you can leave a memory on the wall).

Is the nightlife good in Lausanne? Where is good to go?

We party a lot, even though there are not that many night clubs. We do have international DJs coming to play and have organised parties by each university, great to meet new people!
