Why did you choose to go to Lausanne, Switzerland?
It has good universities. It has an international and student atmosphere. It's in a strategical location to be able to enjoy skiing during the season, as well as the lake and the mountains in summer.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
1-2 terms. I got €100-200 a month from the Madrid government.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lausanne?
There are around 20, 000 university students in the city (around 8, 000 at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne - EPFL, around 12, 000 at the Lausanne University).
Would you recommend the city and the university of Lausanne to other students?
Yes.
What is the food like there?
If you like cheese and chocolate, this is the country for you. Otherwise, they have other kinds of traditional foods, which are very good.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Lausanne?
It's very difficult.
How much does it cost to live in Lausanne?
Around €1, 000 a month.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the university?
There are free courses at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) for students.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Lausanne from your home city?
By plane from Madrid, costing from €60 to €100.
Where would you recommend for a night out in Lausanne?
The Great Escape, Jaggers, Buzz, La Cave du Bleu Lézard, Darling, Mad, Le punk bar.
And to eat in Lausanne? What are some of your favourite places to go?
The Great Escape, Holly cow, Creperie La Chandeleur, Chez Mario, Happy Days, Zoo Burguer, Sushi Zen, Chez Xu.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The l'Élysée Museum and the photography museum.
Do you have any advice for students coming to Lausanne in the future?
Be patient and persevere with trying to find accommodation.
