What is it like to live in Lausanne? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Lausanne is a student city which turns it into a very cool and fun city. The prices are pretty high though (what do you expect? It's still Switzerland! ). Anyway, the architecture of Lausanne is pretty nice and old depending on the quarters. The UNIL (The University of Lausanne) is great because it's a bit far from the city and we do have a whole Campus for the students! It means that you will also meet people from different faculties!

What is the student lifestyle like in Lausanne?

Most students party from Thursday until Saturday night! I don't know how they manage to do it because it costs a lot! But if you're ready to drink maybe one or two beers per night, then you have to be careful during the rest of the week with your budget.

How much does it cost to live in Lausanne?

I would say that the rent and the food altogether cost approximatively 1000 per month.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Lausanne? Is there any advice you can give?

It is kind of difficult! I would check on the Unil website for flatmates. Don't expect to live on your own here! You must share your flat to save money!

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is close to what you will find in France! It is pretty nice to eat in Lausanne! Also, because of the history of the country, you can easily find Italian food.

What places would you recommend visiting in Lausanne?

I would recommend the city center... Lausanne is a small city compared to others in Europe! Everything is at the same place! In 20 minutes of walk you'll see everything that you should! Go to the Flon, La Riponne, Saint-François and Saint-Laurent.

Is it good to eat out in Lausanne? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

My favorite spot is Mario! It happened to be the oldest pizzeria in Lausanne! The place is great, you can tag on the walls and the food is amazing! And cheap I must say.

Is the nightlife good in Lausanne? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is fine! We have free-entrance disco! The names are: Bleu Lézard, Buzz, Jager's and Lido.

What advice would you give future students heading to Lausanne?

Save money and you will have a lot of fun! Lausanne isn't great if you have nothing to live with!
