Experience in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by Basilia

What is it like to live in Kuala Lumpur? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It was the best six months, I wish I could go back every day! There are so many things to do and it is even better with friends. It is a great location to be in but also to jet off to neighbouring countries and islands.

How much does it cost to live in Kuala Lumpur?

Excluding accommodation, you could definitely survive with 200 EUR a month due to the exchange rate. You won't be able to go to Marini's 57 every weekend but trust me you'll have a blast with all the other great spots out there.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Kuala Lumpur? Is there any advice you can give?

Unfortunately, I did not have to look for accommodation myself when I was in Kuala Lumpur but friends of mine easily found places around Kuala Lumpur. I would join a facebook group or contact your uni to see if they had any previous students there.

What places would you recommend visiting in Kuala Lumpur?

Batu Caves
Genting Highlands
Cameron Highlands
Penang
Malacca

Is it good to eat out in Kuala Lumpur? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Whether you want to eat local street food (malay, chinese or indian cuisine) to some good ol' western food or feel like trying something new, Kuala Lumpur has it all.

Just of Changkat Bukit Bintang, you will find a street food market where you can order fried rice, char kuey teow, seafood and so much more. Additionally, Pinchos (at the end of Bukit Bintang) is a must for you tapas lovers and gin & tonics. La Bodega in Paviliion is also recommended.

All the malls have food courts with a variety of restaurants which are well-priced in case you are on a budget.

Al-Amar is an amazing Lebanese restaurant in case you have the urge for tabbouleh or a shawarma. Additionally, Kampachi hits all the spots if you are craving Japanese.

To be honest there are too many great spots to try out that I won't be able to cover it in this post.

Is the nightlife good in Kuala Lumpur? Where is good to go?

It is amazing, you have the entire spectrum: super casual to chic. Changkat Bukit Bintang is a street filled with countless bars and clubs. Definitely some to hit up are Mango, Havana, and The Whisky Bar.

Heli Lounge Bar, Marini's 57 and the SkyBar at Traders Hotel are great rooftops. It is highly recommended to dress up for Marini's 57 and SkyBar.

Since I left, Zouk, the nightclub, has been renovated and is located at a new spot with 11 different rooms. Check it out if you're a big group of people and you don't necessarily have the same taste in music.
