Old fortress

Close to the center of town, the breathtaking old fortress of the island is a place you have to visit.

After passing the main gates, you cross a brige over a beautiful canal and on the right you can see as far as the windmill outside of town (also a must visit location). Inside the fortress, there is a temple, saint George, with a unique architecture, that on the outside looks a little like the parthenon.

The local library is also located inside the fortress, as well as the music department of Ionian Universiry. You can even find a beach, a small harbor, coffee shops and a great restaurant.

Assending the fortress, in the top, near the cross, you have the amazing view of the whole town. If you are visiting with friends or family, or even if you need to spend some time alone, just to feel the wind, sun and enjoy the scenery, the fortress is perfect in every way!
