As promised, we will keep on with the mesmerising island of Crete, and then we are moving on to another great student destination.

Crete

Crete is divided in four parts, each and every one of them having a different kind of beauty to demonstrate. However, the ones that are mostly preferred by the students, are Herakleion and Chania.

In order to make out the most of the island, you need to spend there from one week to 15 days. Crete has is one of Greece's biggest islands, and it has been under different kinds of domination throughout the years, creating gradually a long tradition of it's own. The tastes, the music, the dances, the places and the hospitality of it's people are one-of-a- kind. The beaches are exquisite, and the island is always alive and vivid. Experiencing one of the local "glentia", the cretan fiestas, will make you take a deep dive into the local culture.

The top must-see spots on Crete island are:

  • Beaches: Elafonissi, Vai, Balos Laggon, Seitan Limania, Falassarna, Matala

  • Bars and clubs: any place you visit in Crete will have numerous bars and clubs to try.

Crete has two airports, so you can choose any of them to reach the island. Another option would be for you to take a boat from Pireus Port, and go on a 5 to 9-hour trip to any of the three main ports of the island. If you want to explore as many places as possible, it is highly recommendable that you rent a car. The local cuisine is a must- try, and something that will definitely stay in your mind (and especially in your taste) for a long time. The people are always warm, open to tourists and welcoming, and they will always invite you for a treat at their house. The local alcohol -raki- is mind-blowing, so drink responsibly! Hersonissos is the most touristic destination, full of youngsters eager to party all day and all night long, but keep in mind that if you want to experience authenticity and tradition, you need to get around.

Corfu

Strategically located at the entrance of the Andriatic Sea and proud to be one of the Ionian Islands, Corfu (or Kerkira in Greek), is an island full of greenery and spectacular views. The pristine wild beaches and domination of the venetian fortresses over the neoclassical architecture of the Old Town are the ones that fill Corfu with authenticity and majesty.

Spending one week on the island is more than enough for experiencing all the majesty it has to unveil. Many tourists choose to visit Corfu at the Easter week, because of the special events that take place during the Holy days, but it is ideal for the summer as well, so that you will have enough time to enjoy the morning sun sunbathing on the beach, and spend the whole night partying wild at the local clubs.

You can reach Corfu by plane, as it has an airport, otherwise, if you live in Greece, by boat from the port of Igoumenitsa. The distinct charm and beauty of the Old Town will make your stay there special, and the guarantee of the crazy parties will definitely make your experience on the island unforgettable. The local cuisine will fill your mouth with incredible mediterranean flavours, so make sure that you won't miss the local pastitsada and the bourdeto. If you wish to see the entire island, it is advisable to rent a car for your convenience.
