The palace dedicated to the heroe Ahile

Published by flag-ro Patricia Ioana — 9 years ago

In one of the days I spent on the island of Corfu  I had the opportunity to visit the Palace of Corfu. Without Achilles would be poorer, and our vacation on this patch of land location wouldn't be complete. Many come here fascinated by stories about Sissi but all goes incintati everything they've seen: the Palace, the lush gardens, the serenity of the place or of the two statues which depict likeness without Achilles. The construction of the Kaiser's contributions, the Baron Hartmann Richtoffen and the Greek State are gathered and offered visitors today.  ... just the wind and the waves was born on December 24, 1837, Elisabeth of Bavaria, Abdo family of Sissi, Empress of Austria became in 1854 by casatora sa, at the age of only 16, with her cousin Franz Joseph and Queen of Hungary and Bohemia later.

Due to her lack of experience but also of inadequate education, Sissi failed to live up to the expectations of the Imperial House. The first daughter's death at the age of only two years a throw on it into a deep depression from which it will be able to leave only for brief periods during his life. His mother, Elsa, he wrote at one point: "my child, there are two types of women: those who performed your desires and others. You you belong to, I'm afraid, the two categories. You're intelligent, you're a very contemplative and you lack character. But don't make enough concessions. I don't know how to live and to adapt to modern life. You you belong to another era, that of the Saints and martyrs. You don't give too many airs TTT or not-it breaks the heart of inaginandu you're a martira... ”.

The Palace takes the desired shapes and it's slowly, slowly embellished with sculptures, bas-reliefs, frescoes and items they brought from Sissi all over the world but who had a single theme: Greek mythology. Reception hall ceiling was embellished by adding beautiful fresco called "the four seasons, the work of italian artist Callopi."The triumph of Achilles, "the astonishing work of Austrian painter Franz Matsch, has been placed in the staircase you start receiving lobby.  In October 1891, the Palace was completed. But Sissi visits in many other places, and in 1892, Emperor Franz Joseph, who did not even State one night in his room at the Palace, nor visited the Achilleion vrodata, realizes that his wife was suffering from a disease new: plictisise of the Ahilleion! Her answer did not surprise anyone, but:"If I were obligated to remain somewhere, even in Heaven, to me would become an inferno.". Her last visit to the Palace was in 1896. Since then he has tried in vain to seek a buyer for the Achilleion. And because it has not found that the buyer had ordered that some of the pieces of furniture to be brought to Vienna and stored by various castes or in warehouses because it had a new dream: to build a House at his San Remo, but that dream has not been fulfilled.  Sissi died during an excursion in Geneva in 1898, being injunghiata by an italian anarchist. Her body lies in the Imperial Crypt of the inmormintat Church of the Capuchin in Vienna even if she wanted to be buried "on the beach, preferably on the island of Corfu".

... the music in the Palace

After the death of Empress ownership of the Achilleion Palace was her husband, Franz Joseph, which gave him exclusive rights to use his daughter Princess Gisela who was trying to sell the Palace immediately. Negasind a buyer for nine years, has stayed closed. Achilleion  In 1905 the german Emperor (Kaiser or) Wilhelm II visited Corfu being hosted at Villa Mon Repos by King George I of Greece, the one who actually and given the name of this villa. After the departure of the British from the island in 1864, when Corfu was United with the rest of Greece, Villa Mon Repos became the property of the Greek Royal family.

... the Achilleion Palace Museum is located in the village of Gastouri, 7 km from Corfu Town.  Daily operating schedule in summer (April-October): daily 08.00-20.00, and during winter (November-March): Monday to Saturday 08.00/14.00 Sundays closed. Also, the national holiday days the Museum is closed.  Ticket price: 7 euros. Price audio-guide in Greek, English, Italian, French, German, Russian and Chinese: 3 euros.  Once you've entered the Palace Gates bearing the name "ΑΧΙΛΛΕΙΟΝ" which I found in the left ticket office housed in a room built with Palace and which served as a telegraph room. Refuzasem to read more about the Palace outside of its history before you see it. Many recoamdau for visiting him on a vacation in Corfu, others say it is waste of time. I wanted just to be surprised, I make my opinion without being influenced by other leaves me comments.

The Palace is delightful!

At first glance, without having to wait to go inside, I realized that I have lost time with this visit. The end of September, somewhere to 17.00, tourists no longer inghesuiau how likely do it in full season. There were maybe 20-30 people at that time in the Palace and the gardens. With an hour or two before sunset, almost alone, we managed to live one of the most beautiful after amieze in Corfu.  White, silent building, rises on two floors. On the outside you can see on the first floor two Centaurs in marble, while the second floor four Muses of bronze which pick up the sides of the candles. Columns that support the first floor were built in the doric style. In the garden in front of the Palace are several statues that they deserve all the attention. One of them is a copy of an ancient work called "Musician with cymbals."

The windows that had been erected on Kaiser's wish in front of the entrance were gone. The sculpture represents Sissi is situated in front of the entrance and is a reason to do a first step inside the Palace thinking at the Empress and trying to imagine the beginning of the day.  After a first step made me find the bright reception room. Of course, I gaze is drawn from the imposing staircase that climbs to the second floor, framed by Doric columns. But the more I visited the entire ground floor.  In the reception hall there is a fireplace of marble of Portofino on which stands a clock from the elizabetana era and two bronze figures that represents Minerva (or Athena Pallas).

-Goddess of wisdom and on the Eve (or Heve)-goddess of youth. From the reception hall you can enter into a souvenir shop that, unfortunately, is closing at 16.30. The ceiling of the Hall is decorated by artwork created in 18 months and the painter Gallopi who managed to keep in a very good condition. It's about "the four seasons of the year", fresco in which children with shopping cart intuchipeaza spring roses, babies in the face of Cupid with clams in the summer, embodies women's hands, one of which you a bunch of grapes embody autumn, and women who embody the winter fire. Hours, daughters of Zeus. dance, entangled over all season. Freasca is framed by other representations such as Villa Borghese is remarkable in Rome where Sissi bought several pieces for her Palace or Hermitage Museum in Leningrad. Braurile framing frescoes are copies of the ones found in Pompeii.

The right side of the room stood the Catholic chapel on the walls which are objects and decorations made of Alabaster or marble. In front of the altar is the painting of the Blessed Virgin with the infant out of the waves, the work of Franz Matsh. ' Stella del Mare ' was painted after Sissi said she had a vision when he was caught by the storm at sea and is done after the "Stella Maris" seamen's Church in Marseille. An exceptional piece of fresco painting above is "Stella del Mare", a work of Hungarian painter Michail Munkatsy which represents the Faun in front of Pontius Pilate during the judgment. In the Chapel and the clothes of daruite clerice Pope Pius IX to Empress and a sculpture that depict Holy Gennaro, the patron saint of the city of Naples.

One of the rooms holds objects and documents of the Empress Elizabeth. I liked especially some family pictures taken in front of the Palace in that period. Of course there is also a room dedicated to the Emperor Wilhelm II. Here also are preserved paintings, pieces of furniture, documents and photos.  Smoking room or dining hall is located at the left of the entrance hall and today houses the Museum offices. The rooms are somewhat saracacioase mobileir taking into account as they definitely contained far more pieces during which were inhabited. Among the construction parts found a desk, a bed, cupboards, library and an elegant mirror story apart. ... It seems that last visit Empress at the Achilleion, preparing it for departure, Sissi and her Lady companion, Countess Ida Ferezny, they heard a loud noise in the room. Entering they saw cracked mirror. Sissi said the Countess is a sign that it will no longer review

At last the time came to climb the monumental scale which we drew when we entered, the scale of which Elizabeth has said "The Greek Gods". Exceptional railings are ornamented with figurines of bronze. The statues framing the scale represents Zeus with lightning in his right hand and the Eagle at feet, symbols of strength and grit and Hera, wife of Zeus, the protector of the family, with a Peacock at her feet as the symbol of devotion.  Climbing to the top floor, in front of us appears formidable oil painting "the triumph of Achilles", opera in which Franz Matsch has surprised the mythology in which Achilles for Hector's chariot tied and surrounded the city of Troy three times.

On the first floor is a ballroom that today is used for various events and Empress Sissi, and rooms on the second floor are the rooms of the Emperor Franz Jozef and of their daughter Archduchess Marie Valerie.  Palace Gardens are definitely the most searched by the visitors. Here lies the stretched areas which together form an oasis of beauty. The four statues which embodying the Aphrodite, Artemis, Apollo, Hermes and Martin H. Samuel of new Museums or Gallery Politically make these terraces a colt that I remember whenever I get to come to the Achilleion Palace.

One of the muses present between the "Muses Martin H. Samuel" was bought by the Austrian Consul in Corfu, Alexander Warsberg, of Naples, and the remaining eight were purchased personally by the Villa Sissi Borghese in Rome. The thirteen busts of "politically Gallery" are of the philosophers and poets that Sissi had admired and whom he brought from Naples.  How beautiful is reassuring you and sit and look at the swish of a Water Fountain located in the middle of the terrace. Camacho had been bells that hang here, every breath of wind, you are reminded that you are on Earth, not in heaven.

But too few sits down to enjoy the landscape. Most of them are rushing to reach most of the famous statues: "Achilles Dying". Perhaps the most beautiful story telling tourists about the attachment to Empress for this statue is the resemblance between the agony and pain of Achilles who tries to pull an arrow out of the heel and the agony and pain of the construction to get over the death of her son Rudolf.  Passing them in an alley framed by Palm trees, we arrived at the statue which depicts Achilles statue winner, brought here by the Kaiser Wilhelm II and who, at the time, was atop the sword and helmet gold plated.

Passing them in an alley framed by Palm trees, we arrived at the statue which depicts Achilles statue winner, brought here by the Kaiser Wilhelm II and who, at the time, was atop the sword and helmet gold plated.  Here is a very beautiful belvedere to the shore of the island and the sea. Ideal place to meditate on all that I have seen ... at the time when only the wind and the waves can be heard by the Empress Sissi and the steps here, to the music of the Palace during the Kaiser data together parties with his friends, to the voice of the wounded treated in rooms of the Palace, to the nights of ecstasy or agony of gamblers at the tables Casino ... to me that I am here, as I like to travel and that in my travels I find such unique places which I will tell ...
