Why did you choose to go to Jerusalem, Israel?

I'm currently doing a Phd on the crusades and I had to go to Jérusalem for my thesis.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I wasn't there as a student, so I can't really answer about the scolarship...

What is the student lifestyle like in Jerusalem?

Same thing

Would you recommend the city and the University of Jerusalem to other students?

Same thing

What is the food like?

Very good ! There are many markets and very good fruits and vegetables, so you can make your own food. In restaurants, you can choose between an arab cooking (very much like Lebanese one) or a more traditional jewish cooking.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Jerusalem?

Yes, it can be difficult. There is not much choice, and it is expensive. Try to find a flatsharing somewhere !

How much does it cost to live in Jerusalem?

My rent was of 600 euros by month. I spent around 200 euros by month for the food.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

It can be hard, especially because the alphabet is a non-latin one.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Jerusalem from your city?

By plane...

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Jerusalem?

I can't tell... I'm was there for work, so I did not go on a night out !

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Jerusalem?

I don't remember, sorry... but there are many good places around the old market.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

So much I can't even begin to describe them ! The old city of Jérusalem itself is wonderful, and in a driving distance you have very beautiful sites like the old city of Acre, the Dead Sea, Tiberias,...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Jerusalem in the future?

I hope you'll enjoy this city as much as I did :)
