What is it like to live in Izmir? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Izmir is the second biggest port in Turkey, third biggest city and the most liberal one. Known as student city, known by modern turkish society, known by moderate climate, famous for the pretiest girls in Turkey. Above all cities in Turkey I would absolutely recommend Izmir comparing to other cities.

All together Izmir has more than 100.000 students on two main Universities. Bornova, parth of the city known as center of few Universities is absolutely nice city area for living and having fun.

Dormitories are double expensive than renting a room with other flatmates. For example dorm cost/mont 200-400€, room rent from 120-200€.

Facebook groups for renting rooms, you can ask your advisors on University or International Student office, usually they are frendly to help too.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is marvelous; fruit and vegetables. I recommend to find weekly "pazar" - place where once in a week vegetable and fruit sellers come and send it all fresh and very, very cheap. If you eat in the restaurants than one meal costs between 5 to 15 tl.

Izmir city center: Alsancak (also known for night life), Konak, Kemeralti (city pazar). In surroundings Cesme, Efesus, Sirince, Bodrum, Kusadasi, Marmaris...
