What is it like to live in Izmir? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is really wonderful to live in Izmir. Izmir is the pearl of Aegean with its sunny weather and friendly people. It is by the Aegean Sea and has got beautiful beaches.

What is the student lifestyle like in Izmir?

There are 9 universities so it is a student city with convenient public transportation. It is also an inexpensive city. Fish, vegetables, fruits and traditional Aegean meals are very delicious. I have got an English student as a tenant. He is so happy with the flat & outdoor swimming pool included in low price.Subway is also near the universities.

How much does it cost to live in Izmir?

It is really cheap as €0, 50 is equal to 3 Turkish liras. I think €800 will be enough including all your expenses.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Izmir? Is there any advice you can give?

There are lots of flats or rooms available. I can find you modern, luxurious or normal flats. You can rent a 1+1 flats with swimming pool and sauna and you can share the rent with your friend. My phone number is 05333868984. Or you can choose student hostels. It depends on you.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Really delicious! Kebabs, fish and salads are so nice.

What places would you recommend for visiting in Izmir?

Ephesus, Virgin Mary House, Çeşme, Kuşadası.

Is it good to eat out in Izmir? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes. We like to eat out because it is cheap and delicious. Traditional kebab and fish restaurants by the seaside are my favourites.

Is the nightlife good in Izmir? Where is good to go?

Yes. There are good places. Arena and Ozevenue are big concert places. There are lots of bars in Küçükpark in Bornova and Kordon in Alsancak.

What advice would you give future students heading to Izmir?

It is a big city. Be careful, don't trust everyone. I am an English teacher at a secondary school. You can call me and I will be happy to help you. There are hundreds of Erasmus students in İzmir at Yaşar University. You will be happy in Izmir.
