What is it like to live in Izmir? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Izmir is surely the nicest city of Turkey,I think. With its warm Mediterranean people, you will feel very welcome.
What is the student lifestyle like in Izmir?
I think, it's quite easy to live in Izmir as a student. Because I can say you can party with a few money in your pocket and the rents are also not quite expensive.
How much does it cost to live in Izmir?
It's not an expensive city. And comparing to other European cities, Izmir is a reasonable place to live, economically.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Izmir? Is there any advice you can give?
Well, it may be sometimes difficult. It changes according to the district. But I recommend everyone to live in Karşıyaka or Bostanlı.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is yummy, I like it as I am also from Izmir :) We use olive oil a lot, the food is not spicy. You will taste a classical Meditteranean cuisine.
What places would you recommend visiting in Izmir?
I'd recommend them to go to 'The elevator' (Asansör), The ancient city of Ephesus and ofcourse the turquoise beaches of the coast, Çeşme and Foça :))
Is it good to eat out in Izmir? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yes, you can find a lot of classy and cosy restaurant in Kordon!
Is the nightlife good in Izmir? Where is good to go?
Yes! I definitely love the nightlife of the city. The prices are not bad comparing to Istanbul. You should try the Turkish beer 'Efes'. For the parties, you should go to Alsancak! For the pubs, your first destination should be Bostanlı and perhaps Bornova which is more like a student town.
What advice would you give future students heading to Izmir?
Go to Izmir and have a lot of fun! I'm sure that you won't regret it. Don't forget to drink 'Raki' which is a tradition alcoholic drink!
