Why did you choose to go to Izmir, Turkey?

The chilled version of Istanbul!

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I went with a program by the UNESCO for a year.

What is the student lifestyle like in Izmir?

Very relaxed, nice parties and laid back folks.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Izmir to other students?

Haven't been at the university, they have a good rep. though.

What is the food like?

Amazing...unless you're vegetarian.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Izmir?

No! Very easy, be careful to know the prices first so you don't get ripped off.

How much does it cost to live in Izmir?

I payed 650 TL for a downtown 3 room apartment. With a balcony and a terrace.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Turkish is easy, French speakers will already have a huge amount of vocabulary. Don't worry, you will get it quickly!

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Izmir from your city?

Plane

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Izmir?

Alsancak, of course!

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Izmir?

Alsancak, too. Check for less know places in small side streets.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Around Izmir, you will find Efes. Enough said.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Izmir in the future?

Learn the language so you feel part of the town!
