Why did you choose to go to Izmir, Turkey?
To be honest, I decided to go to Turkey quite randomly. The last day I filled in the blank that my destination is going to be Turkey.
However, I can truly say that it was the best decision I could have ever made.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The scholarship amounted to 400 euro per month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Izmir?
The life is awesome indeed! Izmir is the most modern city in Turkey. There are so many places to be seen... Moreover, Izmir has a great access to the beach. It takes just one hour to get to the city named Cesme.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Izmir to other students?
Definitely yes. I would recommend both Izmir and the University.
What is the food like?
The food is yummy. The Turkish cuisine has a wide variety of different meals.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Izmir?
No, I searched the accomodation by myself.
How much does it cost to live in Izmir?
It depends on the person. The living costs change according to your lifestyle and your basic needs.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Turkish language can be a tought nut. Anyway, everything is possible if you really dedicate yourself. Turkish language courses are available in the University.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Izmir from your city?
By plane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Izmir?
Alsancak is a perfect district for everyone who enjoys night life. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Izmir?
Balik and Raki restaurants are a perfect choice for fish-eaters.
There are many restaurants that offer just breakfast menu. You should try to find out the best place for you.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Ephesus city which is located just one hour from Izmir.
Sirince village, known for its wine village, is also worth seeing.
There are many nice places to be seen in Turkey. So I also recommend to go to Pamukkale and Cappadocia.
Everyone should see this paradis on Earth!
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Izmir in the future?
Do not hesitate to try something different. Turkey is a perfect choice because it is totally different from European cities and cultures. Cultural shock is guaranteed!
