What is it like to live in Irakleion? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Herakleion is one of the biggest cities in Greece. It has many beautiful places, parks and amazing food.

What is the student lifestyle like in Irakleion?

There are a lot of students because of the two universities in the city, and they are always ready to party! Clubs,bars,beaches,cafes, they are everywhere. There's trans parties,pop, rock, home parties, outdoor etc.

How much does it cost to live in Irakleion?

The average cost for a student is: anywhere from 250-400 for rent a month depending on the area. Supermarket is around ,30 per week.
You can have a decent fast food meal for 3.5 € minimum. Internet always depends on the company, usually 15/month. Transportation for students is 0.6€ for 1 ride for those studying in herakleion. Monthly card 45€.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Irakleion? Is there any advice you can give?

If possible check the place before you book it. There's a lot of humidity and many old houses tend to smell. It's a bit difficult because a good place is pricy. There is a place that rents to Erasmus students called: the walls studio at tirtaiou 22. Most of the Erasmus students stay at student housing at the University.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are many options for local food, and also international. There's Mexican, indian, asian, Peruvian... Favorite meal is stuffed peppers with minced meat and rice and pastitsio. Favorite street food is gyros. Meat wrapped in a pita

What places would you recommend visiting in Irakleion?

Knossos palace, venetian walls, koule, Kazantzakis tomb, georgiadis park

Any place in Agios Minas. There's many bars there and they are always full. Also outopia, think tank, speira

Is the nightlife good in Irakleion? Where is good to go?

Envy for parties, parko 240 for drinks, dodo for cocktails to go.

What advice would you give future students heading to Irakleion?

Ask the locals for suggestions. They are friendly and helpful. Try local cuisine, and definitely go outside of heraklion. Rethymno, chania, agio nikolao. And no matter where you are, remember to have fun! Geia mas(cheers) as we say in Greece!
