For those who like a diversity of ambiances and music, I would tell them they have it... pretty complicated. The majority of bars are all the same, with electronic music or music that tries to be. Of course if you like this genre, I suppose there will be better places but you will enjoy it in Innsbruck a lot.

The most crowded and popular are the Hofgarten or Stand café, 6020 or weekender. As the city isn't very big, there isn't much of a loss as they are all is the centre. I would also not recommend the zone near to the train station. I have to confess that I haven't been there much and I only know that they are bars with more rock music.

Of course there are slightly more alternative bars, but not to party and go all out. Alternatively, they're better to go to for a couple of beers. For example the Moustache or the Treibhaus, where there is also a room for concerts and quite cool things, documentaries and cinema as well. It would be the bar with the most activities music and culture bound (it is my favourite, if you haven't noticed).

Of course, Innsbruck, being a university city with a fair few Erasmus, has many bars and you can find an offer in a different bar any night of the week. However at the end of the day, they all seem the same to me. The good thing is that you don't have to think much about where to go!
