Experience in Iași, Romania by Mohamed
What is it like to live in Iași? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Living in Iași as a student is very good. The prices are low, there are a lot of students and young people, and the city is rich thanks to its many ways of entertainment.
What is the student lifestyle like in Iași?
Student life in Iași is very awesome. Iași has a lot of students' Campuses. There are a lot of places to have fun in and different means of public transportation, so I think it's an ideal city for the students to live in.
How much does it cost to live in Iași?
For me €250 per month was perfect.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Iași? Is there any advice you can give?
No, it is easy to find accommodation in Iași. I advice students who can't afford to pay a lot of money to live in the student dormitory because it is cheaper compared to renting flats or houses.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Actually, to be honest the only Romanian food that I tried there was a traditional soup with some vegetables. But whenever I wanted to eat meat I went to the Turkish restaurants because they served halal meat. On the other hand Romanian restaurants unfortunately don't do so.
And It's very important to us as Muslims when we want to eat meat to eat it "halal", which means it is prepared in Islamic way.
What places would you recommend visiting in Iași?
I'd recommend visiting:
- Palace of culture
- Ciric Lake
- Copue Park
- Iași Botanical garden
Is it good to eat out in Iași? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yes, there are a lot of different restaurants in Iași. My favorite spot was the food court inside the Palace mall.
Is the nightlife good in Iași? Where is good to go?
Actually, I personally didn't experienced the nightlife (because of some rules in my religion) but from my friends perspective I can tell it's very good. In their opinion the best place to is called "Hunter's pub".
What advice would you give future students heading to Iași?
My advice is to be careful when dealing with taxis because most of taxi drivers, when they know that they are dealing with foreigners, they want to charge them more money! And to be careful in the train station's area because there are a lot of beggars there.
