Why did you choose to go to Iasi, Romania?

The university in Iasi has a degree in my domain

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

4-5 months, and I received 1000 EURO per month

What is the student lifestyle like in Iasi?

The studies are not difficult but involve many tasks and projects and the students need to invest time in it. The city is full of young students, and many of them foreigners. The city is very safe. The leisure life in Iasi is very rich, there are many activities for students, many bars, clubs, coffee shops, restaurants, cinemas, Karaoke parties, music shows, theatre and other things to do.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Iasi to other students?

Yes

What is the food like?

A large variety of food. Anyone can find what to eat. In almost every restaurant there are many kinds of meat, fish, salads, side dishes, cooked vegetables, pizza, pasta and so on. The menus are huge in here, and everything is cheap. On the streets there are many food stands with snacks and coffee, bakeries and bagels stands.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Iasi?

I came here before my mobility to rent an apartment, but I had special needs. Most students stay in the accommodations.

How much does it cost to live in Iasi?

It's hard to tell, but a lot less than the 1000 EURO I receive. This is a very inexpensive city.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

There are two language courses in Alexandru Ioan Cuza: One for a month before the mobility (for beginners) and one through the entire semester. I didn't take them because my classes are in English.
The Romanian language is not very easy, but the young people speak English, and when you need to talk with someone who doesn't speak English, they understand you even if you speak Romanian not well.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Iasi from your city?

The easiest is by two flights - one to Bucharest and then from there to Iasi. The cheapest would be a flight to Bucharest + train ride to Iasi, but the train ride takes 7 hours.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Iasi?

Karaoke party in Corner (on Fridays)
Movie at Cinema City in Iulius Mall
Rock Shows
I don't really like clubs, but there are many clubs too.
If you want a night out - just search Google for "eventimente iasi", there are many options.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Iasi?

The Panoramic restaurant in Hotel Unirea
Dopo Poco Trattoria
Piatto D'oro
Time Out

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The Botanic Garden is nice, and Palace is beautiful.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Iasi in the future?

Don't be worried! It's a really lovely city!
