Experience in Huelva, Spain by Guillermo
What is it like to live in Huelva? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Huelva is a cheap city very near the coast. In less than 15 minutes you can visit Punta Umbría and other coastal villages, where you can find outstanding natural beaches. Huelva is a relatively small city, but there are a few places to go outside on the weekends. In summer, people usually go to the coastal villages to go out during the weekends. The public transport is not very good even though it is enough to go to university.
How much does it cost to live in Huelva?
Shared flats can go from 200 to 400 including expenses, such as the internet, water and electricity bills. If you are under 27 you can get unlimited transport for 22€/month. And the food isn't too expensive either, you can eat maybe for 100/150€/month.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Huelva? Is there any advice you can give?
No, there are lots of flats. You can rent one full flat and then look for partners or look for partners that already have a flat. There are some owners that already do that are rent the rooms separately.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
If you like fish and shellfish and other seafood, this is your place. I don't like them, so, anyway, there are a lot of tapas bars and good restaurants.
What places would you recommend visiting in Huelva?
Punta Umbría, the beaches. If you really like history and monuments maybe you can visit El Monasterio de La Rábida y las Caravelas. The city center is quite nice also, to go for tapas in the afternoon. Pablo Rada, Plaza de las Monjas, etc.
Is the nightlife good in Huelva? Where is good to go?
If you like pubs and disco it is good already, but maybe you'd struggle to find alternative plans.
What advice would you give future students heading to Huelva?
Huelva is nice and cheap, enjoy its beaches and have fun, but remember, people here don't speak English normally, so take it into account and learn some Spanish before coming.
