What is it like to live in Hong Kong? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

People always say we walk very fast and that's absolutely true. We always race with time. But as a tourist it's also absolutely fine to take a step back to see the hustle in front of you which I think you would find interesting.

Hong Kong has a bit for everything do I think it fits all kinds of people. Drinking, eating, hiking, sightseeing, history... Everything. But keep in mind that Hong Kong is a small and crowded place. There are always people. But maybe it's an advantage for you to explore this dymanic city.

I recommend Hong Kong as a detour of your trip, maybe in China or Asia. But to experience fully maybe as an exchange student?

We have LKF if you love drinking, Tsim Sha Tsui ID you love shopping, and we've got all kinds of international cuisines in Hong Kong with reasonable price and high quality! Victoria Harbor is very nice, so is the countryside landscape if you go hiking. Cinema is cheap and everywhere there are bookstores, cafes, cheap cheap McDonalds meals if you are broke, tall buildings everywhere with commercial signs (typical view)...

Sometimes if you are so sick of Hong Kong it's very cheap to travel around Asia so it's another plus!

What is the student lifestyle like in Hong Kong?

Some study very hard, some are more laid back. It's your choice. But we also suffer from the famous Asain spoon feeding learning style so I think you would find as many active learning students as in the rest of the world like in Europe. But, again, it's your choice.

People always say to us university is the only free time left before entering into the job field of the society. So we always enjoy our free time as a student!

How much does it cost to live in Hong Kong?

To be honest if you don't live in a residence hall housing is not very nice and it's very expensive. That's the part you have to suck it up.

But on the bright side food is much cheaper than Western Europe I would say. Local food is amazing, we also have traditional chinese, japanese, southeast asian food and western food. They are all very nice so Hong Kong people are always critical about eating.

Transport is convinent and cheap because we have a very well linkage system of trains and bus and minibus.

Electricity and gas and water are cheap too.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Hong Kong? Is there any advice you can give?

Yes. Hong Kong people ourselves are very hard to find accommodation. I suggest student residence if the university comes with it. As I recall almost all university in Hong Kong has it. If not prepare for an adventure! (Just joking I think the uni will help you find one as they always want to make you feel secure and settled).

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Local food, street food, chinese food, Hong Kong styled chinese food, canton food, japanese, korean, thai, vietnamese, italian, american and on and on. Food is diverse and relatively cheap. My favourite ones are countless.

What places would you recommend visiting in Hong Kong?

Harbor, Mong Kok, new territories for hiking...

Everywhere has good food for you to nibble.

Is the nightlife good in Hong Kong? Where is good to go?

Yes. LKF or karaoke or nighttime movies....

What advice would you give future students heading to Hong Kong?

Be prepared of people and crowds.
