Why did you choose to go to Hildesheim, Germany?

It is a relatively small but nice town. Both universities offer special programmes for Erasmus students - events and trips to other cities. The University of Hildesheim also offers intercultural courses.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

That depends on you home country - a semester ot two.

What is the student lifestyle like in Hildesheim?

The town is very nice and calm. However, I would say that the student's lifestyle is alive. There are so many things you can do and with the university, its modern courses and open-minded teachers you will always want to learn more and more. It's fun for sure.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Hildesheim to other students?

Yes, a thousand times yes.

What is the food like?

German traditional food at festivals was a bit strange for me. But at restaurants as well as at the university's canteens the food is A+++. There are also many supermarkets around where you can buy what you need and cook the food you like. Just take in mind that most of the supermarkets don't work on weekends and during the holidays.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Hildesheim?

The university offers the students the option to help them find an accommodation, the service is free, but there is a rent you need to pay monthly and a deposit for your stay.

How much does it cost to live in Hildesheim?

The cheapest student's room is around 180 euro with shared bathroom and kitchen. Electricity, heating, hot water, internet etc. are included in that price. But the cost varies for the different accommodation types from 180 to 260 euro and more. Food and clothes are not super expensive and with your Semesterticket you can travel for free in the town and even in areas outside it.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

There are intensive language courses available in the university before the start of the semester, they cost around 40 euro. There are also free language courses - you can choose them as part of your semester program but you then have to take an exam at the end.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Hildesheim from your city?

Airplane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Hildesheim?

Pasha/Dax, KuFa, Wohnzimmer or cinema - all are nice places you can have fun at.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Hildesheim?

There are many good restaurants but I can think of two right now that are really easy to reach: The Knochenhaueramtshaus (at the Marktplatz) and Amadeus (near the Marktplatz). You can eat pretty everywhere. And don't forget about the university's canteens!

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

In Hildesheim: the churches der Dom, St. Michaelis, St. Andreas; Marktplatz; the museums and the Weihnachtsmarkt (winter time only).

There is a beautiful castle outside of the town - Marienburger Schloss.

You can also visit other cities - Hannover, Bremen, Hamburg, Wolfenbuettel, etc.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Hildesheim in the future?

At the beginning you will need a large sum of money: you have to pay your Semesterticket (around 200 euro), your rent, your deposit (2 to 3 times your rent) and who knows what else. So be prepared. Then things will go back to normal :)

Hildesheim is a great place, don't miss the opportunity you have. Enjoy your stay to the max.
