How much does it cost to live in Helsinki?
Living in Finland is really expensive and being the capital Helsinki is one of the most expensive ones. Sharing the apartment with somebody is best way to live cheaper and there's also student apartments available from HOAS. Living in the center is way more expensive, so if you can I would not recommend renting apartment straight from the citycentre.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Helsinki? Is there any advice you can give?
That depends on what kind of apartment you are looking for. Student apartments from HOAS are really popular and also harder to get. Finding a room is easier.
What places would you recommend visiting in Helsinki?
Suomenlinna is a good place to visit especially in summer. A small island which fortress was used to defend the capital and it's also UNESCO listed.
Also the white church/cathedral called Tuomiokirkko is a must see. If the weather is good head to Linnanmäki which is a amusement park. The park itself is free but the rides cost.
In Helsinki you can find a lot of different parks or islands. Visit at least Kaivopuisto, Seurasaari and Esplanadin puisto.
In winter, you can skate in the open air next to main railway station.
Is the nightlife good in Helsinki? Where is good to go?
The citycentre has a lot of clubs and bars. Students can find almost every day different student parties and pub crawls called Appro's. Just be active on Facebook and ask at your university and you won't miss them!
