Why did you choose to go to Helsinki, Finland?

It was the only choice I had.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

3 months. I received around 330€ per month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Helsinki?

Well, I actually did clinical practice in different laboratories, so I don't know how it is to actually study in Helsinki. I did visit the Metropolia Health School, and it was amazing, with a gym and everything, not to mention the sauna. I also was a regular on student night outs, or activities, and it was pretty damn good.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Helsinki to other students?

I would definitely recommend it. It is an amazing city, and I would love to come back (this time during the summer).

What is the food like?

Very heavy food, but nice. Awesome jams and Finnish pancakes are to die for.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Helsinki?

No, I applied to HOAS accommodation, it was easy and quick.

How much does it cost to live in Helsinki?

Everything is really expensive, specially fresh food. I would save at least 1000€ for each month, just to be safe.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

No, such a difficult language. But the university offers language courses for beginners.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Helsinki from your city?

The only viable way. Airplain.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Helsinki?

I don't remember the names, sorry. But just ask any local student, perhaps a tutor, they will know for sure.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Helsinki?

There was a nice pizza place in a main avenue in the city centre, I think it was 7€ and it was an all you can eat buffet. Not a good restaurant, but cheap and still delicious.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Suomenlinna

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Helsinki in the future?

Have fun and bring warm clothes!
