Why did you choose to go to Helsinki, Finland?

Sibelius Academy is one of the best music school in Europe plus I wanted to radically change. Since I come from Spain, Finland was a nice and different country to try.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

It lasts 9 months, I received about 200 € per month, which it was not even close to the money I spent every month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Helsinki?

Studying mostly, as in every city I suppose.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Helsinki to other students?

I do, great places and good places to work and visit. Many activities such a concerts, but if you are looking for good weather and enjoying the sun get away...

What is the food like?

Mosly too bad, but you can eat for 2,6 euros in the university cafe.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Helsinki?

It is quite hard, so I recommend to apply for HOAS and start looking for apartment as soon as possible

How much does it cost to live in Helsinki?

About 600-700 euros per month.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The language is really difficult but Finnish people have such a good English.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Helsinki from your city?

By aeroplane from Madrid to Helsinki.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Helsinki?

Kalio.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Helsinki?

Morrison's.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Helsinki Music Center, KIASMA, Atheneum museum...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Helsinki in the future?

If you don't have clothes for the winter, buy them here, you can always find good prices or second hand stores.

Come mentally prepared for the lack of light.
