What is the student lifestyle like in Helsinki?
awesome :). A lot of freedom what to choose from the university courses and also party and nightlife, if you wish.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Helsinki to other students?
definetly.
What is the food like?
The food is more expansive, than I am used to, but besides that it is more or less like I now it.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Helsinki?
Not at all, because it was all done by the HOAS Student Housing.
How much does it cost to live in Helsinki?
It depends on your needs. I paid 400€ per month for rent. And other stuff depends on whether you drink a lot of alcohol (very expensive or not). I spend about 600 in total.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?
yes there are language courses. I would say it is possible to learn Finnish if you want, but there are also a lot of courses offered in English and Swedish.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Helsinki from your city?
I am not sure. I would say plane. For a bit more adventurous ferry might be nice too, because you can take your bike, which is nice to have, since students' public transport ticket.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Helsinki in itself. Also I would recommend a trip to Estonia, which is 2h by boat and Tallinn is a really beautiful city.
Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Helsinki?
Take or get a bike in helsinki.
