Nights Out

Helsinki is a great city for a night out. Admittedly the nightlife is a lot tamer than my home city of London but that is just because it is a smaller city, and on the plus side Helsinki is cheaper for a night out.

One thing that annoys me is clubs try to trick you saying it's free entry, but then there is a mandatory cloakroom fee. And you won't venture out to a club in Finland without a coat - believe me. You will die.

Great places to go are:

  • Tiger - (on a Sunday it's super cheap) also I say Tiger is great but I actually hate it the DJs are always bad but everybody goes there because it's cheap so if you want a fun night with friends The Tiger is awesome.
  • Baarkiapanen (or BK) - pronounces baaar-re-kaaar-puh-nen (at least I think - and i am not even sure i have spelt this right). On Tuesday nights they do beer and cider for 1 EURO - such a bargain! The DJs are better than Tiger and it's a fun place to go.
  • Roska - my personal favourite venue for a night out (purely because when I went there they played loads of old school hip hop). I really love this place and recommend it. It's got a real urban feel, complete with bus seats as in club seating and walls which you are obliged to write on.
  • There is also We Got Beef - but this place is over 21s only and Amarillo which does free entry on Wednesdays.

I have also become a bit of a lover of club music, something I used to detest, and in all honesty still hate a little bit but it makes me feel happy when I hear it and happy that I am studying abroad. I recently made a playlist of all my favourite rubbish pop/clubby music I hear in clubs here in Helsinki. Here it is:

  • Avicii v Nicky Romero - I could be the one
  • Calvin Harris ft. Florence Welch - Sweet nothing
  • Avicii - Wake Me Up
  • Martin Garrix - Animals
  • Stromae - Papaoutai
  • DVBBS & Borgeous - TSUNAMI
  • Don Omar - Danza Kuduro
  • Avicii - Levels
  • Pitbull ft. Ke$ha - Timber
  • Sweedish House Mafia - Don't you worry child
