My Erasmus Experience in Helibronn, Germany. By Carlos.

What is it like to live in Helibronn? Would you recommend it? How is it?

Calm, there are cheap places to live, of course Stuttgart has more nightlife or fun, but this is a village of about 130 thousand inhabitants, but the Hochschule Heilbronn is very good and worth living here. There are also companies nearby such as Bosch, Audi, among others.

What is the student lifestyle like in Helibronn?

I go to the Hochschule (Master MSEM), with the semester ticket and I can move throughout the area of Heilbron within the 6 months. The current cost is €126. There are many activities at the university, like sports that will help you to integrate.

How much does it cost to live in Helibronn?

€300 for a room but there is a lower price, €80 definitely if you are under 30 years old. If you are older than 30years old, the cost increases to €120 something monthly. €30 for your weekly food in the supermarket, it depends on what you buy or if you eat at the university where it costs €2. 50 for a meal. I have made a budget of 50 weekly, of course does not include clothing or entertainment, going to the movies is expensive at least in cinmaxx a film in ed with student discount costs 11 euros.

Was it difficult to find your accommodation in Helibronn?

Do you have any advice?

Since Venezuela cost me a lot, they recommended a hostel to me where, fortunately, there was accommodation. I found room in 2 days, thanks to the help of a girl from the uni who helped me call and make an appointment. Student rooms are always full and it's hard to get one, but they are the cheapest at €150 or something like that. A bit of advice: it is a matter of luck or making some contact with someone who lives here, use the rental pages or Facebook where there are groups as well.

What is the food like?

What are your favourite dishes?

It is varied, I usually eat things that I would cook in my country, but I had to adapt to eat a lot of pork or pork products.

What places would you recommend visiting in Helibronn?

The centre, Weinsberg, Breitenauer See lake in the summer which is very good.

Is it good to eat out in Helibronn? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There is a Thai food place in the center but I don't remember the name. The ice-cream parlours: there are two near the central station and a new one in the Gelatinni center, or something like that. Vapinano, I don't go much as it is expensive. Although, at the ice cream parlours the price is good at €1 per portion.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Helibronn?

Scharquis, Club Sofa, Irish pub, there is a very good Mexican restaurant.

What advice would you give future students heading to Helibronn?

Don't be afraid to ask for advice if you have doubts, be polite with the older people here and treat them well (of course there is always someone particular), be punctual, honest and have a good time, at least I've applied those tips and I've done well.
