" Husband & Wife" Cake

I remember when I was young, whenever I went to a wedding with my parents, it was nice to have a couple cake (Husband and wife cake) to go home. The palm-shaped square shaped cake is wrapped in white lacquer, fresh green, covered with a bit of sesame on the top, coconut mash green coconut cure yellow. Biting into a piece of cake is the toughness of the crust, crunchy crunchy coconut or papaya scrape, fat of green beans, simple but delicious to strange. Somehow later, this cake seemed absent, and perhaps I must also not long to bite a piece of this cake again.

I was not supposed to be able to eat this dish at Tarragona far away. Recipe

Preparation time: 30 minutes (bean cooking time and cake crunch)

Cooking time: 20 minutes (steaming time)

Serves 12 cakes (using cupcake silicone mold)

* Material:

A. Cake Filler

60g green peas and peas

15g sugar

15ml of cooking oil

2 tablespoons coconut milk cure (using fresh coconut is the best)

B. Cover

180g flour power

350ml of water (room temperature)

50g sugar (increase or decrease depending on taste)

5 tablespoons coconut milk cure (using fresh coconut is the best)

A few drops of pineapple leaves (or red, gold discretion)

Sesame / roasted sesame seeds

* Making:

A. Cake Filler

1. Green beans are washed, soaking 6-8 hours. If you are in a hurry to use boiling water to shorten time. Steamed beans are cooked by steam, can be used steamer, rice cooker or ordinary pot is.

We use the pot, the beans into the pot poured inundated water, boiled in medium-high fire until boiling water, water and then lowered fire and steaming until the beans to soften. During steaming, stir occasionally until the beans are not burnt to the bottom.

2. Steamed beans are cooked, grinded, mixed sugar, coconut cakes and cooking oil, on the kitchen island in fire for 2-3 minutes and then cool down north, divided into 12 equal. If you feel too dry, you can add some water or cooking oil. The cake should be soft to soften a bit better.

 

B. Cake Cover

Mix flour, water and sugar. Extract pineapple leaves / color products to the color satisfactory. Put the mixture in a saucepan, to the stove in medium-high heat, using a spatula or wooden chopsticks until the mixture begins to thicken as shown in the image (3).

Step 1

Add the dried coconut to the mixture. I only have dry coconuts bought at supermarkets, but you should use coconut fiber to be the most delicious nhé.

C. Stir, steam and pack the cake

1. For steamed cakes, you can use small bowls of heat-resistant porcelain for molding, or as you use mold cupcake silicone. The mixture is very sticky so it is best to use a plastic spatula to split the powder.

Step 2

Put the oil on the bottom of the mold, put 1 tablespoon of powder into the mold, spread out. I use a set of spoon to make bread, each spoon is 1 tablespoon. Add the breadcrumbs, add a spoonful of flour to the top.

 

2. Put the cake in the steamer for 20-25 minutes, until the custard is clear and visible.

 

3. Take the cake to cool down, use your fingertips clean dipped in water, tap on sesame and dot on the cake. Normal cakes are wrapped in cellophane, they should not be replaced with food film. Remove the cake from the mold and place it on the food wrapper, wrapping the hands tightly to the cake and square.

 

The tough crust of coconut, grains of coconut, the fat pie, bite a piece to bite again, eat one again want to eat more. Cakes can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days, or 1 week in the refrigerator (if you store in the fridge, you should put in the microwave about 5-10s before eating to cover plastic cake again)

Legend has it that the name of "husband and wife" is associated with the story about the husband and wife of the merchant in ancient times. The story, every time before the husband on the road to trade in distant, the wife always made cake to her husband and swore that despite being far away but her heart is always sweet, bold as the cake. Touching husband named the cake is the wife. Immediately after arrival, the husband was captivated by the beauty of the strange girl and did not want to return. The wife at home knows the news to make cake to send her husband with the message:

"From the day he got down to the boat

Who would make “husband & wife cake” for you.”

Receive the cake and messages from  the wife, the husband immediately regret the remorse and not return. From that tale, that cake is therefore used to symbolize the conjugal love of the couple, and is usually given as a blessing to the young couple, who wish them to stay attached, love each other for the rest of their lives.
