Why did you choose to go to Halmstad, Sweden?

I added the option of Halmstad amongst 9 other cities when I asked for the Erasmus scholarship because it seemed like a different option to me - Exotic. It wasn't like going to the United Kingdom or to France. Sweden is much more distant in all ways and I thought, why not?

How long does the scholarship last? How much money do you receive as aid?

In my case, it lasted for 10 months and I received €600 in three instalments throughout the year.

How is student life in Halmstad?

It's not a very big city and nor is the university but for this reason, it can be noted that the students contribute to a good part of the city life, as much as to the local, as to the nearby towns and cities, as well as to those international.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Halmstad to other students?

Without a doubt!

Did you find it hard to find accommodation in Halmstad?

Definitely. Accommodation is something which is managed somewhat similarly to what would be the University's student council. A few months before starting your Erasmus you will have to fill in a form, indicating your preferences in regards to accommodation (they will sent you the website address themselves, where you'll see this adjoined with prices and conditions, etc. ). After some time they will assign your a residence/house, making sure that your desires are satisfied (although you might not get the number 1 accommodation on your list) and the rest is history.

How much does it cost to live in Halmstad?

It will depend on how much you have to pay for rent, but you can live on €400-500 with no problems.

How is the language? Did you have to any courses at the University?

I studied Swedish for foreign students, during both semesters and I liked it a lot. It's a beautiful language and although it's not easy, with a bit of work you can get along well with it. Anyway, if there isn't an opportunity to study it or if you're not good at it, you will have absolutely no problems with English in order to survive there.

What is the most economic way of getting to Halmstad from your city?

There is no economical way from my city unless a miracle occurs. I generally fly to Copenhagen, which has a lot of destinations and catch a direct train or coach from there, to Halmstad.

You can also go from Malmö, where Ryanair operate and they have flights from Spain. The most affordable that I've managed to find to get to Halmstad from Andalucia was a €100 journey but generally, it will always be more.

Which places would you recommend to go out to party in Halmstad?

Moon Club, B&B, The Corner. There are many more places but these are the ones which have free entry more often and don't have age restrictions.

Any advice that you want to give to future students in Halmstad?

That you investigate the city to the maximum (something which I didn't do) and that if you're under 25 years old, you come to discover a place called Nolltrefem. ;)
